David Calvert, Shooting

As an athlete with the Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games team to Gold Coast in 2018, I was fortunate to have Julia allocated as Physio to our sport (Shooting). I was impressed not only with her professional knowledge and treatment, but with her whole-hearted dedication to the team. With Julia’s support I was able to focus on my core business of training and competition.

Ciarán Chambers, Badminton

I am a former international badminton player for Ireland and Northern Ireland. I have worked with Julia Webster and North Down Physio for over 6 years now. Julia and her team have such knowledge and experience with all ranges of injuries, issues and niggles. They have helped me numerous times during my life, both for competitive injuries and daily living struggles. If not for Julia and her team’s support, I would not have been able to compete for as long as I wanted.

Ellie McVeigh, Squash & Netball

I have been supported by Julia and Steve from the age of 12 years playing both Squash and Netball at International Junior level and transitionally into Senior International Squash. Both Julia and Steve has ensured my junior career has been kept on track off court in both sports with clear guidance to assist with reducing the risk of injury and when issues arose administering professional advice on a clear recovery pathway. I very much view Julia and Steve as part of my “Sporting Team’ always there to help and support me and both of whom I trust.

Mark Downey, Cycling

I first worked with Julia at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast 2018. I had a pretty heavy crash while competing on the velodrome in the points race. I came to Julia with quite a bit of back pain which would run all the way down to my hamstrings. Julia spent the first session trying to find the problem and the pain which was restricting me getting back to feeling my normal self on the bike.

We got to the bottom of it and she began loosening and stretching the muscle to try and release the pain. After a week full of rehab with Julia I was competing in the men’s road race 6 days after my crash. Not only did I feel back to my normal self I felt better – I raced to 4th in the road race in an event which I thought I wouldn’t even be able to compete in after my crash.

I have to thank Julia a lot for all the help and treatment; It was a something I could never imagined achieving after the accident. Julia is a very professional and patient physio, getting to the bottom of my problems and having me back to my best in no time, and who I would recommend for professional athletes or amateurs wanting treatment or an understanding of their injury.

Clare Duffield

“This year the skill, expertise and personal service provided by Julia, Cat, Athol, Steve and all the team at North Down Physio have been superb and instrumental in helping me prepare for  Ironman triathlon and in recovering from injury and setbacks.

They are consistently professional and their friendly approach and flexibility in appointments is hugely helpful.

I reckon Steve provides the best sports massage I have ever had whether to recover from training and racing or simply for pure relaxation purposes.

Julia and Cat have specifically helped me in the diagnosis and effective treatment of injury and it’s fair to say that the unique Sara Keys treatment has proven really effective for me. Julia  gives her clients personal attention demonstrating her commitment to their recovery.

Finally, it’s great to be able to ask questions, and share information through their facebook page.

Thanks to everyone at North Down who, at home, we call the extended members of ‘Team Duffield’!

Kelly Hudson

“My name is Kelly and I met Julia at the London 2012 Olympics under the dire circumstance of my torn calf muscle!

Thank you so much to Julia for the treatment she provided, and mostly the support through my injury sustained at the Olympics. I was greatly encouraged by her advice, action plan and treatment, and was in fact able to return to the pitch for another game.

Nevertheless, the knowledge she shared with me and giving me a dedicated series of goals and rehab plan, at least gave me something to work with, to work towards, which in a win win situation gave me hope in the short term that I would make it back to the pitch, and a better understanding of the injury and how to best deal with this type of thing in the future.”

Mark Robson

“I think I can safely say that without North Down Physio I would probably have failed to start any of the most recent Mourne Mountain Marathons. The magic hands of Steve Spence have alleviated several nasty though mostly self inflicted injuries and his help, along with that of the rest of the staff in North Down Physio, has helped me enormously in managing a chronic back complaint. The wonderful “footwork” of the girls …. all of whom have Lionel Messi like skills in that department… allied to Steve’s ability to accurately and instantly pinpoint a problem have made life a lot more comfortable for me and allowed me to continue training !

Steve’s most spectacular success was with my torn hamstring. I did the damage on a Friday night – Steve treated me at 0630 the following morning – and an hour later I was on the start line for the Mourne Mountain’s “Seven Sevens” Challenge. The hamstring was still sore, naturally, but incredibly I had enough movement in it to finish an 18 mile challenge. Told you – Magic Hands that man Spence.”

Foy Vance

“Due to my performance on stage and my relationship with the microphone I tend to suffer from upper back pain. During a previous UK tour Ally treated my back with the Sarah Key method and I couldn’t believe the effects.  It sorted out all my back pain and also left me feeling so much looser. I sort of floated onto the stage!  I found my singing and performance really improved. Now, any time I’m back in Northern Ireland I give Ally a call before a gig.  I would recommend the Sarah Key Method and the backblock routine to anyone but especially to artists and performers. It works a treat!”

Suzanne Beaney

Suzanne Beaney TestimonialSuzanne Beaney, an international hockey player with 40 caps for Ireland and a member of Pegasus, Ireland’s most successful club team said: “Playing hockey at the highest level for over 16 years I am no stranger to injury, but more recently I found myself being troubled by a recurring calf problem. Julia successfully identified the cause of my injury, which was tightness in my back, and through a combination of treatment and recommending the use orthotics I have been pain free for almost a year. Through monthly appointments and following a programme of home rehab exercises, which Julia prescribed, I have been able to resume a full training and match schedule.”

Willie Faloon

“When I first joined Ballynahinch Rugby Club from the Royal School Armagh, Julia was the club physio at the time. I was really impressed by the professional way she carried out her duties and after my first season I suffered a long term injury which ruled me out for most of the next season. Julia’s support, encouragement and treatment during this frustrating time played a major part in my full rehabilitation. I have no doubt that Julia’s care and attention to detail assisted in my recovery and subsequent progression to become a professional rugby player with Ulster Rugby.”
