NDP through the years!

This makes me emotional and proud watching this, but then I do call NDP my third baby!

From charity coffee mornings and running events, to Christmas doos, new premises and social outings… we really do have such fun!!

Nearly there!

Preparations are in full speed for welcoming our clients back to the clinic again!!

We are not “open” just yet, however we hope to make some announcement along side Government restrictions lifting and moving into Phase 2 soon.

More than ever, Now is the time to support local business, so….

A big shout out to Tribal Branding for my branded floor stickers.

Scott Medical Ltd for gloves, aprons, sanitiser, soap and wipes.

And Alpine Signs for my cough screen.

We also have the most thorough cleaning company, Clearwater Cleaning, that, on top of our regular cleans, have been “deep cleaning” the clinic. This will be the new norm for us, and it is very reassuring to have their expertise.

We have also been working hard to introduce new policies and guidelines to keep our clients and staff safe. So there may be a few wee changes to take note of prior to your appointments from now on.

Watch this space for further info 😷🌈

This is me.

This is such a good news story for my bank, Barclays, and a relief for me to be honest, however there is a serious message behind the story.

Barclays have been great over the years with my day to day business banking and helping me with growing the clinic and now in response to Coronavirus with supporting me in securing this Bounce Back Loan.

The fact that I, and other physiotherapy clinics have had to apply for this loan, tells of a profession in crisis. Private physiotherapy clinics are struggling financially, and many will not survive this.

Yes we are a business however the nature of what we do means we won’t become millionaires! We don’t do our job for the money, we do it because it is our passion and our greatest satisfaction comes from helping our clients. We do it because we care.

Like many businesses at this difficult time, we need all the support we can from the Government, and we are grateful for what we have been able to avail of to date. However, I am aware of a number of business who haven’t been so lucky.

North Down Physio supports 14 staff, all of whom have families. I am not shy to say my business needs financial support, however I am determined that we will be open again when the time is right.

This Bounce Back Loan has been a blessing, however it is a loan. With all the adaptions and safety measures in place, physiotherapy treatment will not be the same when we return, however I can guarantee that we will continue to give the same high level of care we have always prided ourselves on.

I would encourage you to please support your local small businesses as much as you can. They have a vital role to play in our community.

Ps, as well as the support from my family, staff and clients it has been brilliant to see the physiotherapy private practice community come together and support each other during all of this.
Thank You
Julia

Hand Energy Holds

Post 3/3
Where has the last 6 weeks of lockdown gone to??!!

Our lives have changed, and we are continuing to adapt to the “new norm”.

The weeks to come will bring more change and different normals, and then more change, however, hopefully all for the better.

Our bodies and minds are going through these changes with our environment, however, we are so programmed to do the same thing for so long, are bodies are a bit slower to adapt.

This can lead to mental and physical micro traumas, that present in upset sleep, pain onset, anxiousness, stress, feeling overwhelmed, overthinking and many more.

We are lucky at NDP to have Chartered Physiotherapists who specialise in Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture, Myofascial Release (MFR), Craniosacral Therapy (CST) and a few things considered amazingly alternative.

If you are into this alternative, or want to try something new, here are a few ideas to get the most from your (1) breathing, (2) self-acupressure, and (3) energy holds, especially in this virus stricken world.
I have explained these over 3 separate posts so keep watching!

(3) Hand Energy Holds

Jin Shin Jyutsu is a Japanese form of acupressure used to reduce stress, restore energy and help emotional regulation.
For adults, and children, one technique is to hold the fingers of each hand singly until they feel the energy return.

Each of the fingers in our hand represents a different kind of emotion or feeling.

The Thumb helps fend off emotions like worry and anxiety.

The Index finger helps you fight your fears.

The Middle finger helps control feelings of rage and bitterness.

The Ring finger aids in fighting melancholy and depression.

The Pinky helps relieve stress and boosts your optimism and self-esteem.

Your goal is to balance all the opposing energy forces in your body.

• Start by taking one finger at a time, grasping it with the opposite hand and wrapping every finger around it.

• Hold each finger for one to two minutes.

• Wait until you feel the pulse. This is when you know it’s working.

To aid in relaxation, apply slight pressure to the centre of your palm with your opposite thumb and hold for at least one minute.

If you practice this technique every day, your spirit becomes balanced, enabling you to deal with stress much more effectively.

(2) Self-Acupressure

Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture
From a review of literature by the TCM Academy, Acupuncture has been shown to play a role in stimulating the immune response, fighting viruses, and protecting the person with a virus.
It helps to produce anti bodies and destroy cells that cause illness.
It stimulates important processes to help the body’s resistance to infections.
It plays an important role in inducing and modulating the immune response.
The most frequently used points are Sp6, St36 and Li4

• Heat these points with tiger balm.
• or use the blunt end of a teaspoon to press the point for up to 3 minutes.
• Do both right and left.
• Daily if possible.

(1) BREATHING

The breath is an incredibly powerful way to restore health to the body. The healing power of the breath has been studied and researched since ancient times.

Breathing affects the brain by regulating the nervous system.

Fear and stress are known to

• alter the immune response,
• upset the sleep/wake cycle
• and contribute to anxiety, mood swings and phobias.

Breathing slowly, into the belly activates the parasympathetic nervous system which calms and recharges us.

Coherent conscious breathing can help to regulate the nervous system.

• Waken/warm up the body with shaking movements and tapping/clapping the limbs and chest wall

• Check into what the body is feeling and acknowledge what you feel

• Sit spine straight or lie comfortably on your back

• Breathe in for a count of six, breathe out for a count of six

• Keep shoulders face, neck, jaw, arms and legs soft and relaxed

• Repeat for up to 20 mins.
