Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a safe, gentle, hands-on treatment approach. It is based on two main principles: 1) that every cell in our body inhales and exhales, 2) that with the right resources, the body can return to health.
It is firmly grounded in the body’s anatomy. CST uses light touch as a way of communicating and listening, feeling for the strength and presence of rhythms and tidal movements of the inhalation and exhalation of the body’s tissues, structures and fluids.
We house old injuries and life events within our body. Sometimes they can create areas of restriction that the whole body must adapt around. As the whole of the body is attached by its connective tissue, these adaptations can create more issues, often elsewhere in the body, as different areas compensate and take more strain.
This may in turn heighten the response of our nervous system, meaning the whole body is more on ‘high alert’ and not in ‘rest and recovery’ state, which further impairs healing.
We also hope to encourage feeling into the body, to see what it is really trying to tell us. Feeling into the body helps to safely down-regulate stressed systems and can facilitate the body to find its way back to health.
If we address the underlying issues, with a gentle hands-on technique that helps to settle stress in the system, we can support the body towards health, improved function and wellbeing.
Craniosacral therapy has a good reputation for its effectiveness in helping women in pregnancy and for many of the ailments of young babies and children. This gentle treatment can ease backache, improve digestive problems of pregnancy, and give the expectant mother much-needed relaxation. Parents commonly bring their babies for craniosacral therapy treatment if they are suffering from colic or other digestive problems, are unsettled or have problems sleeping.
From the moment of conception, a child’s life is a whirlwind of change and development. These many changes bring along their own challenges and it can be helpful to have a range of supportive “tools” to address the issues. CST is one such tool and is ideal for babies and children since the touch is extremely gentle and there is no need for clothing to be removed.
